What You Need to Know About the Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Ford. The current generation of the F-Series was introduced in 2009, replacing the Ford F Super Duty. It is one of only three vehicles sold by both Ford and Lincoln, the other two being the Explorer and Navigator. Furthermore, the F-150 is only available in rear-wheel drive form, while the F Super Duty trucks are available with four-wheel drive.

The F-150 engine line-up falls into two categories: the EcoBoost and the traditional V8. The Ecoboost engine has been designed to achieve better fuel economy with a smaller engine, such as the base 2.7L turbocharged V6 providing 365 HP and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. The 3.5L EcoBoost engine provides similar power as the F-150's 5.4L V8 engine.

While Ford has eliminated the V8 option from F-150 models with higher payload, it will still be available on heavier-duty models of the F-150. The current 5.0L and 6.2L V8 engines produce approximately 365 HP and 420 lb.-ft. of torque and 430 HP and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, respectively. The 6.2L V8 remained in F-150 models until the end of 2018 when new engine rules were introduced mandating a cut in emissions and fuel economy.

The F-150 is available with either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. Both transmissions are 8-pinion low torque configurations as well as fully electronic. The automatic transmission is designed to provide improved fuel efficiency and vehicle performance.

The F-150 offers multiple driving modes that alter the engine's performance and transmission. These include Normal, Sport, Tow/Haul, and Snow/Wet. Normal provides a balance between performance, fuel economy, and transmission responsiveness. The Sport delivers optimal performance from the engine and transmission and steering wheel button shift controls. The Tow/Haul mode provides maximum engine power and transmission responsiveness, while Snow/Wet optimizes traction in slippery environments.

The F-150 suspension uses front MacPherson struts, rear leaf springs, and twin-tube shocks at the rear. Some models are available with automatic load leveling. The F-150 utilizes a rack and pinion steering system.

The F-150 interior offers to seat up to seven passengers, depending on the model. It features a driver's seat with six different settings, a steering wheel with cruise controls, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a shift knob, dual-zone climate control, a 5-inch touch screen in the center with voice commands, and Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity controls. It also offers a rearview camera, satellite radio, and auxiliary audio connection.

The F-150 exterior is designed to reduce aerodynamic drag and provide a quieter cabin. It features a distinct grille, raised hood with air dams, integrated taillights, and bright fascia. The rear wheels will be 30% more efficient on hybrid models. This improvement was made possible by using electric motors located within the wheels. Additionally, all models will have LED driving lights.

If you are considering buying a new Ford F-150 or already own one, know what the vehicle can do for you. It gives you the power and efficiency of an 8-cylinder engine while providing the fuel efficiency of a 6-cylinder engine. It also has three driving modes to enhance your driving experience, whatever the situation. It is available in multiple variants, including a hybrid. The interior is designed to give you maximum comfort, while the exterior reduces aerodynamic drag.
