Volvo is going through a bit of a renaissance lately, with sleeker, sportier redesigns and new model additions that are helping to both revive the brand and bring in new generations of drivers. Which is truly outstanding, considering the company that is now the Volvo Group has been around for over 100 years now. But it is through their adaption to modern lifestyles that has kept the luxury brand relevant. And as the latest 2020 lineup of vehicles demonstrates, the automaker is continuing to soar in the popularity it's enjoyed in recent times. Here's a rundown of the most impressive models in this year's lineup and what they have to offer today's drivers, including teh Volvo XC40, the Volvo XC60, and the Volvo XC90.
First up is the 2020 Volvo XC40. A model introduced just last year, this fun new car is a sleek, compact crossover SUV that is comparable to the Mazda CX-5 in size and shape (but comes with more luxury features). Available in three different trim levels with increasing amounts of luxury and customizable features (the Momentum, the R-Design and the Inscription), the XC40 gets between 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. That said, drivers have two powertrains to choose from. Both come equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, paired alongside an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, the differences come down to the front-wheel-drive T4 with 187 hp, or the all-wheel-drive T5 with 248 hp.
Next in the lineup is the 2020 Volvo XC60. This small luxury SUV was first introduced in 2010 and now comes in four different trims with increasing features: the Momentum, the sportier R-Design, the Inscription and the high-performance Polestar Engineered. All come with leather upholstery, as opposed to the faux-leather seen on the base trims of other Volvo models. Power-wise, drivers choose from three powertrains: the same turbocharged T5 seen on the XC40, the turbocharged T6 with 316 hp, and the plug-in hybrid option, the T8 with an impressive 400 hp. As for mileage, the XC60 gets up to 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway (though this will be greater with the hybrd). It's not the most impressive SUV mileage out there, but it certainly does drive smoothly.
Also impressive from the new Volvo lineup is the 2020 Volvo XC90, which is also the largest of the new SUVs. That said, it comes with the same power options as the XC60, the T5, the T6 and the T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid option. But with features like wood and metal inlays to leather upholstery and a high performance audio system, this car is the very definition of what it means to drive in luxury. Naturally, each trim level — the Momentum, the R-Design, and the Inscription — also come with their own luxury features and customization options. It's also noteworthy that the vehicle has two different seating options: either a second-row bench or second-row captain's chairs. Mileage-wise, the XC90 gets up to 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
Now, all three of these vehicles come equipped with some of the most impressive safety features available on the general auto market today, which actually makes their pricing scale impressive as well. The Intellisafe technology embedded in these vehicles offers a wealth of advanced driver assistance features like autobrake, steering support, lane keeping aid, blind sport information, cross traffic alert, rear collision warning and more. Additionally, Volvo's innovative City Safe support system uses cameras and radar to detect the driver's surroundings and react in case of emergencies. Price-wise, the XC40 starts at $34,345 for the base and moves up to a starting price of $40,450 for the top tier Inscription trim. The XC60 starts at $40,150 for the Momentum and $69,500 for the top tier Polestar Engineered. The XC90 starts at $48,350 and $62,600 for the top tier Inscription.
