The New 2022 iPhones and Their Differences

iPhone users have more reason to celebrate and hit Apple stores after the release of four new iPhones in September 2022. While there have not been notable changes in the previous models, Apple promised their users a heightened experience from using their iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro max.

One of the main differences between this launch and other launches is the absence of the iPhone mini, which Apple replaced with the plus version.

The iPhone 14 models, however, resemble the previous models in terms of design with aerospace-grade aluminum enclosures, flat edges, ceramic shield-protected displays, and textured matte glass backs. They also maintain the IP68 water resistance as the previous models.

Apple promised more repairability in their new phones, and they have made that possible by having an easily removable back glass cover in the iPhones 14 and 14 Plus, a feature they did not add in the Pro and Pro Max.

Their displays, 6.1 and 6.7 inches, are bigger, however. While the iPhone 14 and 14 plus maintain the notch housing the front camera, the Pro and Pro Max versions have replaced that with a capsule-shaped notch called a dynamic island.

Apple placed it there to blend their software and hardware. It also makes it easy to use as it displays notifications, alerts, and activities, like map directions, Face ID, music information, phone calls, timers, sports scores, etc. This allows you to multitask.

The 14 and 14 Plus models maintain the Super Retina XDR OLED display that offers brightness up to 1,200 nits. However, the Pro and Pro Max models have a new and improved Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology.

This allows the phones to have an always-on display, the first time that Apple is adding this feature to their phones. When the display is on, your wallpaper appears dimmer, and you can see live activities, time, and widgets. The screen also offers higher brightness, up to 2,000 nits, and is twice as bright as the previous models in sunny conditions.

Another way the iPhones 14 and 14 Plus differ from the iPhones 14 Pro and 14 Pro max is their chips. The 14 and 14 Plus maintain the A15 chip used in past models, while the Pros use a new A16 chip. This makes it the first time Apple has used different chips in phone models in the same line.

The new A16 chip has a faster 5-core GPU that offers 50% more memory bandwidth, a faster 6-core CPU, and an updated 16-core Neural Engine.

If you love making videos and taking photos, you are more likely to gravitate towards the Pro and Pro Max models because they have a 48-megapixel wide camera, unlike the 14 and 14 Plus models, whose wide camera is 12 megapixels.

The new camera improvements allow the phones to shoot with ProRAW at full 48MP, giving you more professional photos and videos. The Pro and Pro Max also have an action mode for their videos, providing more image stabilization if you shoot in shaky and high-motion conditions.

If you want the iPhones 14 and 14 Plus, you can get them in purple, blue, starlight, midnight, and product red starting at $799 and $899, respectively, for 128 GB. The Pro and Pro Max are available in silver, gold, deep purple, and space black, starting at $999 and $1,099, respectively, for 128 GB.
