The Seltos is expected to retail starting at $21,990 in its LX trim with the optional all-wheel drive. The compact crossover will debut in four trims: the base LX, S, EX and SX, with the EX and SX trims having available turbocharged engines. Compared to other Kia crossovers, the Seltos definitely packs attitude. Its upper trims are surprisingly luxurious, and the interior is roomy enough for four adults to sit comfortably -- the Seltos also offers above-average cargo room. Most trims can be equipped (or come with) the latest electronic safety features and driver assistance technologies.

Performance is a strength for this budget SUV as well. The Seltos ships with either a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that packs 146 horsepower or a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine offering 175 horsepower. The Seltos has smooth acceleration and excellent handling on the freeway. The driving experience is heightened by an array of features such as an 8-inch infotainment display, an eight-speaker Bose sound system, and even Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Did we mention the simulated leather upholstery? It's high-end enough that it looks and feels like the real thing.

Kia fans should be thrilled for the early arrival of the Seltos. This compact crossover SUV will go head-to-head for sales with the Honda HR-V, the Hyundai Kona and the Mazda CX-3, but we're confident it can hold its own. Kia already offers a sturdy lineup of compact crossovers but the Seltos might be its best offering yet.
