This Year's Exciting New Flip Phones

Flip phones are back! Years after behind left behind by the smartphone movement, the industry has finally come full circle with some of the year's hottest mobiles being flip models. Leading the pack are the Samsung Galaxy Z-Flip and the new Motorola Razr -- both are already popular and are outselling Samsung's Galaxy Fold. Other flip phones launching this year include the Huawei Mate X and the Royole FlexPai.

What makes these flip phones so attractive for consumers? For one, they're fun! Who doesn't love flipping open a phone to make a call or answer a text? Second, flip phones take up much less pocket space. Their screens are protected. More than anything, they're just plain cool, and they're someone nostalgic for the early generations of cell phone users.

The Motorola Razr is taking a back seat in marketing to the new Z Flip, but in many ways it's superior. For starters, the Razr's 6.2-inch screen is built with a special hinge so it doesn't crease. It features an outer display that mirrors the presentation of a standard smartphone screen, allowing users to check for messages and more without opening the phone. Battery life is impressive at more than 13 hours for some testers. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 710 processor and has 6 GB of RAM, allowing it to fly while running all of the latest apps.

The Galaxy Z flip, unfortunately, has a visible crease where its screen folds, but otherwise it has a larger screen and equal power. The Z Flip is outfitted with 256GB of storage, 8GB of RAM and Snapdragon 855+ processor. There are two rear cameras on the rear, which is also the front when the phone is folded, and one in the front. The two rear cameras are 12 megapixel, and one is an ultra-wide camera. The camera in the front is a 10 megapixel. The Z Flip is powered by a 3300mAh battery, which supports wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and 15W wired charging.

The Razr and Z Flip are the year's most exciting flip phones, but they're not going to be the last. Also, on the heels of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, it's clear that cellular companies are thinking outside the box when dreaming up new mobile devices. Who knows what the future holds for folding and flipping phones?
