Discover How to Choose the Perfect Wig

Some women have thin and/or sparse hair due to genetics, a side effect from chemotherapy or certain health conditions, because of aging or due to damage from overprocessing or bleaching the fragile hair strands. Other ladies simply dislike their natural hair or wish to try new styles. A wig could be the ideal hair problem solution. Discover some tips on how to choose the right wig to suit your style, budget and intended purpose needs.

Take time to learn what types of wigs are available these days. You will need to choose between synthetic hair and real human hair wigs. In addition, you will need to select the type of cap or opt for a capless wig version. Monofilament caps are wigs that are made with a lacy mesh material. The hair strands are handsewn onto this lace, and this makes these wigs more expensive.

There are several different types of monofilament cap wigs. Some are made with a full lace that is very sheer and breathable. These wigs are usually more comfortable to wear especially in hot weather. The 360 wigs mean that the lace goes all around the hairline giving the wig a more natural look and different styling options.

There are also lace frontal wigs that feature lace only in the front. This style limits the hair styling options that impact the back and underneath portions of the wig. It will not look natural to wear the hair in an updo or in a high ponytail that will show the back of the wig. There are some other types of monofilament wigs depending on the manufacturer. There are also hair extensions which are different from traditional wigs.

Determine what density you would like your new wig to have. Density levels will change the volume of the hair in look and feel. In general, higher density wigs will be fuller and have more volume when worn. Better quality wigs will have a density of 120 to 200 range with the higher density wigs being more expensive.

You will also need to determine what texture that your wig will have. Wigs typically come in straight, wavy or curly texture styles. Next, determine what color you wish your new wig to be. If wanting a natural look, select a wig shade that matches your natural locks.

Remember that your hair roots are somewhat darker than hair that is longer due to exposure to sunlight. If you wish to dye, highlight or otherwise change your wig color, select a human hair wig. Synthetic wigs should not be dyed or highlighted.

Wigs must be attached to the hair with clips, other fasteners, wig glue or by sewing the wig so that it remains in place. You will need to accurately measure your head prior to determining the right size, length and hairstyle. For hairstyle and wig choice assistance, ask your hairdresser for expert recommendations.
